LAST TIME WE MET

Qualifying Final | Melbourne v North Melbourne
It was a disappointing finish for Melbourne when these two sides last met. Prior to meeting in the 2023 qualifying final, the Dees and Roos had faced each other seven times, five of which had ended in a margin of 10 points or less.

But a close game was not on the cards for their finals meeting, the Roos restricting the Dees from scoring a goal for the first three quarters of the match. From the opening bounce, much of the play went North Melbourne’s way and the margin of six goals at the final break was too much for Melbourne to get back, the final score set at 7.8 (50) to 1.3 (9).

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tyla Hanks | Melbourne
Hanks is well known to be one of the best midfielders in the competition and is set to face one of the best midfields in the competition with Jasmine Garner and Ash Riddell a formidable duo at North Melbourne.

Hanks is yet to hit her best footy for season 2024, so a challenge against the Roos is the perfect time to bring this out. Historically, the 24-year-old has been an important player in all matches against North Melbourne, averaging close to 19 disposals each game.

Sarah Wright | North Melbourne
Wright was instrumental in the Roos defence when these two sides last met, leading her backline with 11 intercepts alongside skipper Emma Kearney. Against Melbourne’s impressive forward line, the defender held her own and helped North limit the Dees to just one goal for the duration of the game.

She has continued to show how important she is in North’s defence this season, with back-to-back strong displays in the first two rounds. This means that she’ll be looking to continue this come Sunday at Casey Fields.
