LAST TIME WE MET

2023 RD10 | Brisbane v Melbourne
Melbourne last faced Brisbane during the final game of the home-and-away season last year. The stakes were high as both sides were hoping to enter finals off the back of an exciting win.

The Dees travelled up to Brighton Homes Arena in humid conditions to fight for the end-of-season victory. From the opening bounce, Melbourne was on the back foot, conceding two goals early.

Despite a second term surge, kicking three majors, the Dees were unable to register another goal for the remainder of the game, Brisbane running away with the win at 8.5 (53) to 4.4 (28).

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Blaithin Mackin | Melbourne
Mackin returned to AFLW in a big way on Saturday night. The Demon arrived late into the pre-season, having come over from Ireland following the end of the gaelic football competition.

The late return to Melbourne didn’t stop Mackin from shining, the quick and crafty winger stamping her mark in Round 1 with 25 disposals, 510 metres gained and one goal.

Sophie Conway | Brisbane
Conway has been a big player within the Lions side for years now and continues to go from strength-to-strength. Skilful and energetic, the 2023 premiership player was crucial for Brisbane’s win when these two sides last met kicking two goals.

She has continued to show that she is still in fine form in 2024, among the best in her team's Round 1 match against North Melbourne.

The Lions will be looking to get their first win of the season and Conway will no doubt bring the heat come Saturday morning when her side faces the Dees.
