FOR Lily Johnson, a second interstate move within the space of two years was worth it having now settled into life at Melbourne.

Johnson first moved away from her home state of Tasmania in 2022, drafted by Port Adelaide at pick No.80.

Fast forward 12 months and the then 19-year-old once again picked up her life to move to Melbourne.

“I got towards the end of the season, and I wasn't really getting too many opportunities at Port,” Johnson said.

“So, I came to the club, met some of the girls and had a look around, which was really nice.

They talked a lot about connection and value people’s personalities.

“And then made my decision based off that, which was pretty cool.”

While the second move was a daunting feat for Johnson, she credits the players and staff for helping her fit seamlessly into her new life at the Dees.

“I was a bit nervous moving over, obviously it's a big move…but all the girls are amazing, since I've been here, they're all so welcoming,” Johnson said.

You can just be yourself, which is obviously the main thing.

“If you’re playing footy, that's the way you're going to play your best footy, by just being you.”

The 20-year-old came to the club with five senior games to her name and a wealth of natural footballing ability.

She's known for her silky skills and growth opportunities across both halves of the ground. For right now though, the Demon is fitting into the defence mix smoothly.

“I'm playing in the backline,” Johnson said.

“I like to run and carry, and one of my strengths would be my kicking.

“[This season] I just want to play my best footy and make good connections with the girls.

“Just have a great year, I think, as a team and for myself as well.”
