THE DEES will be hoping to get back on the winners’ list this week against the Bulldogs after a disappointing two-point loss to the Giants on Saturday.

Simon Goodwin joined media to discuss Round 21, the challenge the Dogs present and how important the next four weeks of footy are.

GWS Review

“Our first quarter was as dynamic as anything that we've seen for a while in our footy,” Goodwin said.

“The challenge for us is to continue to do that more consistently, and that was the message in the game and what we reviewed - how strong we were and what those things were that were really strong.

“It didn't quite look like a game we wanted to be involved in and by the end of the game we'd got that back.

“We just have got to do it more consistently, do it for longer, and that's what we're working on during the week.”

Bulldogs Challenge

“There's no question the Bulldogs are in the best form that I've seen for a long, long time,” Goodwin said.

“They're defending to a high level, their midfield’s in great form, they've got a pretty dynamic front half of the ground. We know what we're up against, but we're looking forward to it.

“They've got [their aerial game] up to a really high level, and it's something that our forwards have done a lot of work on and had to nullify opposition in taking aerial contests.

“We've got to make sure that we can get the game looking like it's a Melbourne game more often.

“That's going to be our challenge, not only win the midfield battle, but any time the Bulldogs win the ball, get some pressure on them.”

Selection Opportunities

“We'll have a look how [Lachie Hunter] trains today,” Goodwin said.

“He performed strongly in that time that he had [in the VFL], but it's good to see him out there.

“He's had a pretty tough year, Lach, with a lot of calf injuries, so it's just good to get him back out there playing some footy. He's going to be an important player in the next month for us.”

The Final Four

“It's been an unbelievable season,” Goodwin said.

“You just see so many teams fluctuate, you need two or three wins in a row to be right up there in the competition, you only need two or three losses to be out of the eight and on the way down.

“It's fluctuated so much. There’s four weeks to go, I'm sure there'll be another fluctuation in the season, another twist that it will take, and hopefully we’re a part of the positive twist.”
