NEW DRAFTEES Rory Taggert and Josh Tynan have received glowing endorsements from star Demon Jack Trengove.

Immediately after being drafted to Melbourne, Taggert said he wanted to model his game on Trengove. And now entering his third season with the Demons, Trengove said he had offered some advice to Taggert and Tynan.

“We’ve had a bit of a sit down with the new boys and you try and tell them what you’ve been through and give them hints and pointers here and there,” he said.

“I’ve sat down with Tags and Tyno and had a good chat to them, but they seem like great young kids and they’re all pretty switched on.

“They know what they want to get out of their careers, so I don’t have to teach them too much.”

Despite having two pre-seasons under his belt, Trengove said it didn’t mean he had adapted to it.

“I don’t think pre-seasons ever get easier and even if you ask Greeny (Brad Green), he’d say that it gets harder each year,” he said.

“It’s been great and it’s good to have a few under your belt - going into another [pre-season], but it’s always a challenge.”

Trengove said there had been some simple focuses over pre-season.

“All you want to do is really try and get the main things - get fitter, faster and stronger and more educated on the game. That’s been the main focus for a lot of us,” he said.

“With the new coaches and people around the club, it’s all about learning the game style that they want us to play. That’s been a massive focus.

“Every second person you bump into the footy department is a new person at the club, so they’re trying to put their messages across.

“Everything has changed up a lot, but I’d say that the main difference is that Neeldy wants us to have a more physical and hard approach. I think that’s been shown the way we’re training.”

Training with the midfield group, Trengove said he still sees himself as a versatile prospect. But he is looking forward to mixing it in the middle.

“I like to see myself play a number of positions,” he said.

“As everyone says, it’s where the coach wants you, but hopefully I can get an opportunity in the midfield and that’s where I’ve been training this pre-season so far.

“We’ll just have to wait and see, but fingers crossed I can get a spot in there.”
