Other incidents assessed:

The match day report laid against Melbourne’s Bernie Vince for striking Hawthorn’s Isaac Smith was assessed. After speaking to the umpire who laid the report on the day, and examining all available vision, it was the view of the panel that contact was made with an open hand and was insufficient force to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between Richmond’s Alex Rance and North Melbourne’s Jarrad Waite from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The panel said Waite took possession and was immediately tackled by Rance. Rance rotated and took Waite to the ground with one arm pinned. It is the view of the panel that the tackle was unreasonable in the circumstances and should have seen a free kick paid to the North Melbourne player. While the action constituted a free kick, the panel said high contact for Waite was caused by his head landing on the football, which was outside Rance’s control. It was the view then a report should not be laid and no further action was taken.

Contact between West Coast Eagles’ Shannon Hurn and Jordan Roughead from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said Roughead took possession and was immediately tackled by West Coast’s Scott Lycett. As Roughead was being tackled, he fell and made contact with Hurn. Hurn turned side- on and braced for the approaching contact. It was the view of the panel that the high contact to Roughead was caused by circumstances outside the control of player Hurn, as he did not have a bumping action. No further action was taken.
