Demons give football manager Chris Connolly new role in club development
By Al Paton

FORMER assistant coach Josh Mahoney has replaced Chris Connolly as Melbourne football manager. Connolly has been given the new role of general manager of club development, which will focus on the Demons' relationship with the City of Casey. Melbourne announced a reshuffle of its football department today in the latest off-field move in a busy four days since Mark Neeld took the job as senior coach. On Tuesday, the Demons snared high performance manager Dave Misson from St Kilda and parted ways with assistant coach Scott West. On Wednesday, they announced Brian Royal will take over from West in charge of the club's young midfield, with Aaron Greaves, coach of TAC Cup side the Geelong Falcons coach for the past two seasons, as his assistant. The Demons also revealed Connolly, who coached Fremantle from 2002-07 and has been football manager for the past four years under Dean Bailey, would be working on "strategic investment" from next season. “Over time, Chris has been required to spend more and more time working on the club’s strategic relationships, and less time on the pure football aspects of his role. At this time, we felt it appropriate to allow Chris to dedicate all his time to this area of the business," chief executive Cameron Schwab said.

Demons add to coaching panel
By Matt Murnane

MELBOURNE has followed the recent trend of appointing low-profile coaches from outside the AFL system, adding Geelong Falcons mentor Aaron Greaves to its new coaching panel headed by Mark Neeld. Greaves, who played VFL football for Geelong, started his coaching career at Leopold in the Geelong Football League, the neighbouring competition of the Bellarine League where Neeld coached Ocean Grove to four straight premierships. A physical education teacher, Greaves coached the TAC Cup Falcons for the past two years and previously worked with the Victorian Institute of Sport. His appointment follows the recent signings of Neeld to the top job at Melbourne and Brendan McCartney, who also coached at Ocean Grove, to the Western Bulldogs' senior job.
