INS – Watt (club debut), Campbell, Chaplin, Wilson
OUTS – Harris, Gay, Pearce, Colvin
NARRM’S Rhi Watt will make her club debut this Sunday, running out for the first time in Demon colours when the team face West Coast in Round 7.
Watt joined the Dees in June of 2022 and instantly made an impact on the football program, providing a positive energy and determination to be the best.
Arriving at the club with an ACL injury, Watt has spent her time powering through a rehab schedule all while continuing to be a leader, formally introduced into the leadership group at the beginning of 2023.
Despite having not played a game during season seven, her influence at the club was recognised at the end of 2022, receiving the Demon Spirit Award, given to the player who wholeheartedly embodies the club’s values.
Having successfully left the rehab group earlier this year, the Demon has spent the last few months honing her ruck craft and will add further depth to the Narrm midfield this weekend.
Coming into the side alongside Watt is Georgia Campbell, Maeve Chaplin and Charlotte Wilson, who get the call up following impressive displays in the club’s recent match scrimmages.
“To have Rhi making her club debut this weekend is incredibly exciting,” Marcus Wagner, GM Football Operations and AFLW, told Narrm Media.
“She has put a mountain of work into her rehab in recent months and has well and truly earned this opportunity to play at senior level again.
“Rhi has had great impact on our playing group since arriving at the club, and it’s going to be fantastic to see her run out in the red and blue on Sunday.
“To have Georgia, Maeve and Charlotte return to the side is also reflective of the amount of work, and the impressive form, they have been in, and we look forward to seeing what all can produce for us this weekend.”
It was confirmed yesterday that Tayla Harris (hamstring), Maddi Gay (managed) and Lauren Pearce (shoulder) would all miss the Sunday match, while Gabby Colvin has been ruled out following Thursday night’s training.
“Gabby had some Achilles awareness during Thursday night’s training session, which has unfortunately ruled her out of this weekend’s game,” Wagner said.
“We’re hopeful it’s just the one week on the sidelines, but we will continue to monitor her over the coming days.”
Saraid Taylor, Sammie Johnson and Georgia Gall will be emergencies for the game.
The Demons will face the Eagles at Mineral Resources Park (Whadjuk Country) at 5:05pm (2:05pm local time).
This weekend’s matches will be the first of the AFLW’s Indigenous Rounds, which spans across both Rounds 7 and 8.
For the second consecutive year, the Demons will rebrand to Narrm Football Club for the duration of the two-week period.
The initiative, first introduced in 2022, looks to celebrate Australia’s Indigenous history, while generating healthy and productive conversations among the football community.
The Demons will pull on their 2023 Indigenous guernsey across the two weeks, designed by Nyul Nyul Saltwater Man, Lowell Hunter.
With a strong connection to the ocean, Hunter developed a unique skill in which he uses his feet to carve out breathtaking artworks into sand.
The artwork, which he carved into the sand, was digitised and now takes pride of place on the front of Narrm’s guernsey.
