Demons secure Mitch Clark
By Glenn McFarlane and Jay Clark
MELBOURNE has secured Brisbane Lion Mitch Clark after the big man did a stunning about-face last night. In the biggest move of the trade period yet, and one that will likely open up more trades before tomorrow's 2pm deadline, the Demons were able to convince the 23-year-old to accept a long-term deal worth more than $600,000 a year. The deal is likely to be announced today. The Demons were able to satisfy the Lions with their first pick in the national draft, selection 12, while Fremantle offered pick 16. Only 24 hours earlier Clark had knocked back the Demons, citing family as the reason he wanted to return to Perth. But it is believed he changed his mind after becoming fearful that if he was forced into the pre-season draft. It's believed he was worried about being snapped up by Greater Western Sydney in the pre-season draft.

Clark chooses Dees over Freo
By Emma Quayle
MELBOURNE last night convinced Mitch Clark to join the Demons ahead of Fremantle, in a dramatic twist to trade week that will see Brisbane collect pick 12 in the national draft. The Demons made an improved pitch late yesterday, and Clark informed the club of his decision late last night. After the Lions yesterday began inching closer to a deal with Fremantle for the 23-year-old, who rejected the Demons' initial advances on Friday, Melbourne responded by making another strong pitch, upping an already significant four-year offer.
