Melbourne’s waiting game
By Michael Horan
AS soon as Melbourne's troubled season ended the waiting game began. There is an air of uncertainty about the club's future. First, there is the guessing game about who will coach next year. Until there is an announcement, changes to the playing list are also on hold. Speculation remains strong that St Kilda's Ross Lyon is in the mix for the job. If not Lyon, it is almost certain Melbourne will go for an experienced coach. Then there is the Tom Scully saga. For months the word has been that he has been lost to Greater Western Sydney, but there is still no formal announcement. Logic says he will go. Whichever coach inherits the list, he will have much to review. Melbourne stayed in finals calculations well into the second half of the year, but then imploded. The Demons lost five of their last six games, including a 186-point capitulation to Geelong that cost coach Dean Bailey his job.
