The Melbourne Football Club is pleased to announce that Aaron Davey has signed a new four year contract, tying the exciting midfielder to the Club until the end of the 2013 season.

Aaron, who turns 26 in October, is one of a long list of players who have been products of the successful Melbourne rookie list system.  He was originally recruited with pick No. 3 overall in the 2003 Rookie Draft.

In 2004, Aaron burst onto the AFL scene, playing 21 games after making his debut in Round One.  He brought a new facet to the game, with his defensive tackling pressure and speed highlighting a season in which he finished second behind Melbourne’s Jared Rivers in the 2004 NAB Rising Star Award.

Aaron has since gone on to become a key member of the Demons’ outfit, and in 2009 enjoyed his best season to date, averaging career highs in both disposals and tackles.

Entering his seventh season in 2010, Aaron will become the fifth most experienced player on Melbourne’s list, with 119 games under his belt.

Tim Harrington, General Manager of List Management, said, “We are very pleased that Aaron has committed to the Melbourne Football Club. He is a player who is held in high regard and is a big part of the Club’s future success.

“Aside from his obvious playing talents, Aaron’s leadership qualities are first class.  His work, particularly with our young group of indigenous players, has been outstanding and has gone a long way to contributing to the success of players such as Liam Jurrah.”
