CO-CAPTAIN Jack Trengove and tough-nut Luke Tapscott are set to miss another week of NAB Cup and will not play against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Trengove has a shin injury and Tapscott is overcoming a hip complaint.

Football manager Josh Mahoney said the duo have been earmarked for the third week of NAB Cup.

“Jack Trengove had some soreness in his leg, following a training session,” Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

“He’s had a couple of weeks off and he’ll train fully this week and he’ll be available for NAB Cup round three.

“Luke Tapscott has progressed really well. He is now at the stage where he is almost ready to go. Again, if he gets through a full week of training, he’ll be available for selection.”

Forward Liam Jurrah may not be available until the opening round of the season, after battling a wrist injury. He will be sidelined for another three to four weeks.

“Liam’s wrist injury has prevented him from doing a lot of the ball work throughout the pre-season,” he said.

“He has however been able to do a portion of the running.”

After long-term injuries, midfielder Jordie McKenzie (achilles) and defender James Strauss (leg) are now only two weeks away from playing.

The versatile Cale Morton (knee) will be out for one to two more weeks.

“Cale has progressed well since his knee injury and he’s at the stage where he’ll join in with full training and he’ll be in contention for selection in NAB Cup round three,” Mahoney said.

“Jordie has been moving along gradually through pre-season.

“His intensity has been building each week and he’s now getting closer to full training with the team.”

Utility Neville Jetta is also getting close to resuming following a post-season shoulder surgery.

Ruckmen Max Gawn and Jake Spencer are on the long-term injury list with knee injuries. Gawn will miss the 2012 season and Spencer is eight to 10 weeks from returning.

Rookie Michael Evans (back) is out indefinitely.

First-year Demons Rory Taggert and Leigh Williams have back injuries and will miss a month each.
