INS – Pickett, McDonald
OUTS – Brown (inj.), Jordon (omitted), Melksham (Round 3 sub, omitted)

MELBOURNE has named its starting side to take on West Coast, with two inclusions for the Sunday match at Optus Stadium.

Kysaiah Pickett returns to the team after completing a two-game suspension and has been called upon to add further depth to the Demons’ already star-studded midfield and forward line.

“He's gone away and worked incredibly hard on his game, he's done a little bit of extra conditioning in and around our program,” Simon Goodwin told media on Thursday.

“So, we've tried to use it as an opportunity to actually continue to grow his game.

“He's got good, electric speed, so we’ll continue to focus on that, but also continue to build his capacity to play some midfield time for us… he adds a different dynamic to our midfield when he's in there.”

Tom McDonald has been named in the starting 22 after a solid display in the VFL last weekend, where he kicked two goals alongside 20 disposals.

“[Tom] went back to the VFL with an unbelievable mindset [and] performed really well,” Goodwin said.

“He took five or six really strong contested marks at VFL level…he’s someone that’s really valuable to us as a player because of his ability to run and connect.”

Making way is Ben Brown who was ruled out of the match in yesterday’s squad announcement, with GM AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson updating fans on the tall forward.

“Ben was still feeling some soreness in his lower back during our main session today, so unfortunately won’t be available for selection this weekend,” Richardson said.

“He had a precautionary scan this afternoon, which will assist our medical and high-performance teams with their assessment and programming. We’re confident it’s nothing too serious though.

“We will continue to monitor Ben over the coming days and provide an update in due course.”

James Jordon has been omitted from the side and joins Jake Melksham, Adam Tomlinson and Luke Dunstan on Melbourne’s emergency list.

Dees fans based in Perth are encouraged to head down to Optus Stadium, with tickets to the match available here.

For those unable to attend, the game will be available to watch live from 5:20pm (AEST) via the Seven Network, Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.
