MELBOURNE has named a 26-player squad as it prepares to head to Perth for its Sunday clash against the West Coast Eagles.

The Demons will face the Eagles on Sunday afternoon, naming an extended line-up three days’ out from the 5:20pm (AEST) clash.

Kysaiah Pickett will return to the side after completing a two-week suspension, set to insert energy across both the forward line and midfield.

Senior coach Simon Goodwin joined media on Thursday morning and spoke about Pickett maximising his time on the sidelines.

“He's gone away and worked incredibly hard on his game, he's done a little bit of extra conditioning in and around our program,” Goodwin said.

“So, we've tried to use it as an opportunity to actually continue to grow his game.

“He's got good, electric speed, so we’ll continue to focus on that, but also continue to build his capacity to play some midfield time for us… he adds a different dynamic to our midfield when he's in there.”

Ben Brown has been ruled out of the match, with GM AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson providing an update on the forward.

“Ben was still feeling some soreness in his lower back during our main session today, so unfortunately won’t be available for selection this weekend,” Richardson said.

“He had a precautionary scan this afternoon, which will assist our medical and high-performance teams with their assessment and programming. We’re confident it’s nothing too serious though.

“We will continue to monitor Ben over the coming days and provide an update in due course.”

Introduced into the squad alongside Pickett is Tom McDonald, Luke Dunstan and Adam Tomlinson.

The final line-up will be confirmed tomorrow night at 5pm (AEST).
