Speaking from the club’s community camp at Leongatha in South Gippsland on Monday, Green said talk surrounding Scully’s future would not pose a problem for the team.
“No, not at all, it’s all speculation and I’m sure whatever comes of it, Tom will hopefully be a Demon ongoing for the next 10 to 15 years,” Green said.
“I think the contract negotiations between Tom’s management and the club is going to be ongoing.
“No doubt as a football club and as a playing group, we’d like to see Tom stay with us. We look forward to Tom playing and getting out there over the next couple of weeks with us and that’s going to be an ongoing process. Hopefully it’ll fall our way and Tom stays a Demon, which we all hope.”
Reflecting on last Friday’s wins over Adelaide and Port Adelaide respectively at AAMI Stadium in the opening night’s NAB Cup, Green said it was important to snap a South Australian hoodoo.
“It’s certainly nice to come away [with a win] after going over to Adelaide, where it’s always tough,” he said.
“We haven’t won over there for 10 years, so it’s always nice to go over there and certainly win a couple of games, which is great.”
Green said the next challenge is to see how far the Demons can go this pre-season.
“[We want] to keep playing and progressing through the NAB Cup … is certainly what we want. We want to get out there and put our younger guys under pressure in the heat of games,” he said.
“That’s great to stay in the comp and keep playing on good grounds.”
Green said the community camp was a great opportunity for the club to spread the Melbourne message.
“We’ve got our community camp down here in South Gippsland for the next couple of days, so it’s good to get out in the community and promote our football club,” he said.
“We’d also like to see the youth that we’d like to see with the membership growth out in this area, which is terrific.”
