ON FRIDAY April 25, the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) season launched in style with the ANZAC Day Triple Header at Shepley Oval.
As major sponsors of the VWFL, Melbourne Football Club player Viv Michie attended the match to toss the coin and cheer on the teams.
A range of talent was on display throughout the day.
The three games that were played included:
Youth Girls: Vic Metro v Vic Country
VWFL All Stars v Australian Defence Force
AFL Draft game
The AFL Draft game highlighted the talent of participants who have nominated for the upcoming AFL women’s draft. This provided a great opportunity for scouts and the crowd to see the talent on display – and the players didn’t disappoint.
Melbourne Football Club Community Manager Debbie Lee said: “These games showed the depth of talent we have on offer in Victoria. There is certainly a number of potential draftees that could represent the Dees in the upcoming match.”
The AFL women’s game will take place on June 29 as a curtain raiser to the Melbourne and Western Bulldogs game at Etihad Stadium.
