SENIOR coach Mick Stinear will remain at the helm of Melbourne’s AFLW team, having put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the club.

Stinear, who has led the Demons since the competition’s inception, agreed to terms this week to extend through to the end of 2024.

GM of AFLW Marcus Wagner said the club was thrilled to secure Stinear for a further two seasons.

“This announcement is an exciting one for our group and wider club,” he said.

“Mick has been integral to building our AFLW program into what it is today, and we are lucky to have such a passionate and driven leader at the helm.

“Alongside his knowledge and skillset, Mick’s relationships with the players, coaches, football department and broader club staff are second-to-none. He has fostered an honest, high-performing environment, that our people feel proud to be part of.

“We are excited to see what Mick and the team can achieve this year, and in the years to come.”

Stinear is one of two remaining inaugural coaches in the competition, having first joined Melbourne in 2017. He has since tallied 56 games as senior coach.

He led the Demons to their maiden AFLW Grand Final last season, with the fresh contract coming in the midst of their 2022 campaign, where Melbourne sits equal top on the ladder.
