LAST TIME WE MET: Round 1, S6 | Western Bulldogs v Melbourne | Whitten Oval
The Dees and Dogs are the pioneers of women's football, making them the biggest rivals in this competition. Each time they meet, the Hampson-Hardeman Cup is up for grabs, and it is currently held by Melbourne after its 24-point win earlier in the year. That match was in Round 1 of Season 6, where the Demons got off to a flying start with a three-goal to none opening term. They will be hoping for another fast start this weekend when they face off at Casey Fields for the first time in their history.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Melbourne
Kate Hore
Melbourne's Vice Captain has been leading the way from the forward line this year. Coming off a three-goal haul in the win over Fremantle last week, she currently has eight goals for the season (the most of any Demon) and is second in the league in total score involvements with 29. If Hore can keep making an impact in front of goals like she has all season, the Dogs defenders will have their hands full on Sunday. The 27-year-old will have additional motivation at Casey Fields, lining up in her 50th AFLW game.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Western Bulldogs
Ellie Blackburn
Blackburn has been one of the league's top midfielders since the very first season of AFLW, with this season being no different. She is averaging 20 disposals per game, and currently ranked 6th in the AFLCA AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award after six rounds. Blackburn will be crucial for the Dogs this Sunday as she goes to battle against Melbourne's midfield with the likes of Eliza West, Olivia Purcell and Tyla Hanks to compete with.
