MELBOURNE have suspended Colin Sylvia for the club's round-one Toyota AFL Premiership match against Hawthorn and slapped the midfielder with a $5000 fine.
A statement released by the club on Tuesday night said 22-year-old Sylvia failed to attend a compulsory recovery session on Sunday morning after Melbourne's NAB Challenge loss to North Melbourne on Saturday.
It also said he was out on Saturday night after the 1am curfew set by the players.
The club imposed sanction comes only a week after Brock McLean was suspended indefinitely from the club's leadership group after being booked for speeding on his way back from Melbourne's NAB Challenge match in Bendigo.
Melbourne skipper David Neitz was quoted as saying in the statement that that type of behaviour would not be tolerated at the club.
“This is disappointing for Colin and the playing group. Colin has been in very good form over the pre-season competition after completing his best pre-season to-date," he said.
“It’s unacceptable for Colin or any other player not to turn up to a recovery session as well as not abide by the players' curfew.
“I believe the leadership group and entire player group have handled the situation responsibly.”
