MELBOURNEfc’s Russell Robertson has no case to answer, after his report for charging, made during Saturday's practice match, was thrown out by the AFL Match Review Panel.

Robertson was reported by field umpire Damien Sully for making forceful contact from front on against Andrew Swallow, during the fourth quarter of Melbourne’s loss to North Melbourne.

It is the second week in a row that Robertson has had his charge dismissed by the AFL’s Match Review Panel

In a statement released by the AFL’s Match Review Panel, it was their view that “Andrew Swallow fumbled and ran over the top of the ball. Robertson came in from the side as Swallow turned into Robertson in an attempt to retrieve the ball, when contact was made. During the action, Robertson was watching the ball at all times and did not turn sideways to bump Swallow.

“Robertson did not have a realistic alternative to contest the ball and Swallow contributed to the high contact by turning into Robertson. Therefore, no further action will be taken”.

Robertson is now free to play in Melbourne’s AFL season opener against the Hawks.
