WHILE the Casey Demons’ preparations for Sunday’s VFL Grand Final have begun, they took a moment on Monday night to celebrate the 2022 season.

The VFL and VFLW Awards night recognised some of the best individual performances throughout the two campaigns, with some Demon names featuring regular across the evening.

Melbourne’s own Luke Dunstan was one of the standouts for the club, polling 16 votes to place eighth in the J.J Liston Trophy – an award won by Werribee’s Tom Gribble.

Dunstan also earned a spot as ruck rover in the VFL Team of the Year, while his skipper, Mitch White, who formally played four AFL games for the Dees from 2015 to 2017, was named on the interchange.

With the Demons dropping just one match throughout the season and securing a Grand Final berth, coach Mark Corrigan received the honour of leading the Team of the Year, while also winning the Coach of the Year Award.

Casey also had two players recognised in the VFLW section of the ceremony, with young gun Tahlia Fellows, who has since been drafted to the AFLW by Hawthorn, securing the Debbie Lee Medal (Rising Star).

Fellows was named at half-forward of the VFLW Team of the Year, alongside Samantha Johnson (wing), who was rewarded for an outstanding season with a spot on Melbourne’s AFLW list.

Johnson polled 10 votes in the Lambert-Pearce Medal to finish seventh, 23 votes behind Essendon’s Georgia Nanscawen who took out the award.

To cap off the night, Casey stalwart Greg ‘Keg’ Pendlebury was awarded a VFL Life Membership for his decades of contribution to the league and Casey/Springvale.
