WHEN a laughing Neil Mitchell claimed on his 3AW radio show that Jim Stynes was ‘getting roped in’ for singing alongside Olivia Newton-John at this Friday night’s Melbourne vs Carlton game, the club president could only agree.

‘There’s a lot of pressure, a lot of heat’, he said, before turning an entrepreneurial spirit to the challenge.

With Newton-John joining him on the line, Mitchell reminded the pair that they had previously sung together, and this was a chance to cement the partnership.

In the quest to raise as much as possible for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre (1800 220 or www.oliviaappeal.com to donate), which has cost $10 million to establish, Stynes is seeking financial encouragement to make him sing.

‘If we could guarantee some donations…’, he mused, before Mitchell broke in with ‘Encourage Jim to sing!’

Hopes are high that at least $50 000 will be raised on Friday night, and with Newton-John - and maybe Stynes - providing pre-match entertainment, supported by the AFL in their endeavours, it is an outstanding chance to have a great night out, while contributing to a cause close to many hearts.

With a $5000 donation coming through even as the interview drew to a close, there is every chance that Jim Stynes will be in fine voice as well.
