MELBOURNE midfielder/forward Colin Sylvia has been ruled out of the Queen's Birthday clash against Collingwood on Monday, due to a toe injury.

Hard-nut Nathan Jones has replaced Sylvia on the wing, after he was originally named on the bench.

Melbourne finalised its bench with Col Garland, Cale Morton, Jordan Gysberts and Jack Watts.

Defender Kyle Cheney has replaced Sylvia in the initial 25-man squad, but has been named an emergency.

The Demons have left out small forward Jamie Bennell for the first time this season; ruckman/forward Paul Johnson is an emergency.

Sylvia was unable to prove his fitness in time for the MCG match, after his injury flared up following last round's loss against Carlton.

He was admitted to Epworth Hospital after the round 11 fixture, where tests revealed he had a clot in the main artery on the top of his right toe.

The 24-year-old was later transferred to Cabrini Hospital and released on Thursday.

On Thursday night, the Demons were forced to leave out skipper James McDonald, due to a hamstring injury.

But the Dees welcome back key defender James Frawley, who missed last Saturday’s clash with a back spasm.

Versatile tall Lynden Dunn returns after starring with eight goals for the Scorpions against Box Hill Hawks last Saturday at Casey Fields.

And second-year Demon Jordie McKenzie is also back in the side after spending the past two rounds in the VFL.
