BRAD Green has signed a new one-year contract extension for the 2012 season.

Green, who was named Melbourne captain in 2011, will line up for his 13th AFL season, after he was drafted at No.19 in the 1999 AFL Draft.

The 30-year-old said he was eager about the 2012 season.

“I’m excited to be at the club,” he said.

“We’ve got a lot of hard work to do over the pre-season, but I’m looking forward to getting it started and working with the likes of Mark Neeld, Neil Craig and Dave Misson.”

Neeld, who was recently appointed Melbourne’s new senior coach, said he was excited about coaching the club’s current longest serving player.

“Brad has had an outstanding career at the Melbourne Football Club and I’m looking forward to coaching him,” he said.

Green made his AFL debut in 2000 and has since played 241 matches and kicked 331 goals for the Demons.

The Tasmanian had his finest AFL season in 2010, winning the Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy.

Green was also nominated for the All-Australian team in 2010 and topped Melbourne’s goalkicking in the same season.

He has represented Australia in the International Rules series against Ireland in 2004 and 2010.

Green is also eighth on Melbourne’s games record list, behind David Neitz (306 matches), Robert Flower (272), Adem Yze (271), Jim Stynes (264), Steven Febey (258), Brian Dixon (252) and James McDonald (251).
