SENIOR assistant coach Simon Goodwin says the upcoming Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond is a great opportunity for the club to show its wares.
The future coach of Melbourne said it was a genuine blockbuster for the club.
“It’s an exciting day for the club with the night [game],” he told Melbourne TV.
“It’s a marquee game for the club and we’re looking to put on our best performance in front of a pretty big crowd.
“For us, it’s really about how we want to play … it’s really about getting back to the style of play that we want to play more consistently. If we can do that more often than not, then it puts us back in good shape in games.”
Goodwin said the squad attacked training well on Wednesday after last round’s win over Collingwood at the MCG and was building strongly for Sunday’s clash.
“We thought our first half was outstanding – the way we want to play and we got a little bit raggedy in the second half, so we had a little bit to tidy up on,” he said.
“We’re starting to do really well around the contest and we’re defending better, but the ball movement on the weekend was probably the best it’s been for a while.”
Now in his second season with the club, Goodwin said he felt ingrained in the red and blue.
“I’m loving the excitement around the footy club, and I’m loving developing these younger players and seeing them really grow into, hopefully, mature players down the track,” he said.
“You can just see the talent that’s within this footy club, and it’s just a matter of enhancing it and developing it. It’s an exciting period ahead for the footy club hopefully.”
