MELBOURNE is preparing to face one of the toughest tasks in footy on Thursday night: Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

And while the Power are yet to register a win in 2022, that doesn’t mean they can be taken lightly.

“Port have got a lot of talent and experience across every line,” Demons’ assistant coach Sam Radford told Melbourne Media.

“They’ve got an unbelievable midfield: (Ollie) Wines, (Travis) Boak’s in great form early in the season, (Zak) Butters has gone in there, (Karl) Amon, (Dan) Houston and then players like ... (Sam) Powell-Pepper, (Connor) Rozee rolling through there.

“It’s a deep midfield and that’s going to be a really big battle and important part of the game.

“And if you look at their other lines, there’s experience and talent across the board there.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for Port as a footy club, we know they’re a proud club that have been up the top end of the ladder for a long time now, so we’re really looking forward to that.”

Port Adelaide is coming off an after-the-siren loss to the Crows last week and will be searching for redemption in its third consecutive match on home soil.

But the Demons should take some confidence into the Round 4 match, following a five-goal final term against the Dons last Friday night.

“It was a really good hard-fought win,” Radford said.

“We knew Essendon were going to come at us pretty hard and parts of our game are looking really good.

“Like every season and every game there are areas we can improve on and that’s what we’re looking to do.”

With three victories under their belt this season, the Dees have built some momentum as a club.

And Radford said that’s the most important thing at this time of the year.

“Especially at the start of the season, to win games is difficult,” he said.

“We look to keep building our game and keep improving every week and that’s what we’ll look to do this week.”
