MELBOURNE’S Trent Rivers will play his first official game of 2022, making his return for the side’s clash against the Gold Coast SUNS on Saturday 26 March.

Rivers was sidelined with a knee injury ahead of the opening round and subsequently missed last week’s grand final rematch.

Coach Simon Goodwin told media on Wednesday that the defender would be a welcome addition to the side after working hard to get back to his best.

“He’s done a power of work with his rehabilitation,” Goodwin said.

“We know what he’s capable of and he fits that need across half-backline.”

Toby Bedford, Jake Melksham, Sam Weideman and Luke Dunstan make up the side’s emergency list.

This will be the Demons’ first interstate trip of the season and the first time the side has played on Queensland soil since Round 18 of the 2020 season.

With both sides coming off impressive opening-round wins, the battle on Metricon Stadium is sure to be a big one.

The first bounce is scheduled for 7:00pm (local time), with tickets still available to be purchased here
