The AFL has today announced that the MCG will host Melbourne’s AFLW Preliminary Final.

With the match commencing at 12:40pm on Saturday 2 April, this will provide an amazing opportunity for all supporters to witness two teams do battle on the hallowed turf of the MCG.

The final will be the first official AFLW match played at the home of football.

Melbourne CEO Gary Pert said the announcement was significant, for both the club and the competition.

“The MCG is a ground rich in history, and the opportunity our women’s team now has to play a Preliminary Final there is really exciting,” Pert said.

“Many players dream of running out onto the MCG and our women’s team will finally get that chance next Saturday.

“Being pioneers of the AFL Women’s competition, it’s quite fitting that we will be part of this historic occasion, creating and adding to the memories at the home of football.

“We encourage all our members and supporters to get along and show their support, and fill the stands of the MCG with red and blue.

“It will be a special and important game for our club, and we look forward to sharing it with as many Demons as possible.”

Melbourne will meet either Brisbane or Collingwood for the final-four clash, with its opposition to be confirmed on Sunday.

Captain Daisy Pearce and key forward Tayla Harris will be among only few to have played at the venue, being part of two Exhibition Series matches at the MCG (2013 and 2015).

The match will commence at 12.40pm, with ticketing details to be confirmed over the coming days.
