In 2006 MELBOURNEfc welcomed the National Heart Foundation of Australia (Victorian Division) as one of the organisations they support in the Community.

The Heart Foundation is a charity and the leading organisation in the fight against cardiovascular disease in Australia. Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart, stroke and blood vessel disease, remains Australia’s leading cause of death, and a major cause of early death and ill health.

One Australians dies from cardiovascular disease almost every 10 minutes and it affects one in every six Australians – that’s over 3.2 million people. This alarming statistic shows how important the Heart Foundation’s efforts are to cut this tragic toll.

The good news is that cardiovascular disease is largely preventable if current knowledge is put into practice.

MELBOURNEfc kicked off the relationship in round six, against Geelong, during the Heart Foundation’s annual awareness week - Heart Week. Melbourne supporters were asked to wear more red than blue in support of the Heart Foundation’s work. Robert Flower addressed the Chairman’s function that evening, telling the audience about his personal experience with cardiovascular disease and the importance of supporting the vital work the Heart Foundation carries out.

Brett Moloney and Colin Sylvia wore their hearts and the colour red on their sleeves during Heart Week, which helped the Heart Foundation achieve media coverage in the popular MX newspaper. This was seen by approximately 100,000 readers throughout Melbourne.

Adem Yze is also supporting the Heart Foundation and is encouraging all Melbourne supporters to get behind the Doorknock Appeal from 2-17 September. If a doorknock collector knocks on your door, please give generously.

As a charity, the Heart Foundation relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations like Melbournefc to carry out our vital life-saving work.

MELBOURNEfc will continue to work with and support the Heart Foundation’s various activities throughout the year. To find out more about the work of the Heart Foundation call 1300 36 27 87 or visit www.heartfoundation.com.au
