MELBOURNE coach Simon Goodwin provides an update on all 44 players in the lead-up to the 2018 season. Be sure to check back each day for much of January, as we present this year’s squad …

Charlie Spargo
Charlie was our first selection in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft. He was selected at No.29 from the Murray Bushrangers. Charlie’s a 170cm small forward who has genuine speed, and some of our supporters will be pretty excited when he gets his opportunity. He did everything right in his first three or four weeks at the club and we look forward to that continuing in the New Year.

Billy Stretch
Billy came back to pre-season in great shape. He’s done all of the training and has really improved his footy. His continued improvement is noticeable to everyone at the club. We are all excited about what 2018 looks like for Billy. He has a great desire to take the next step for the upcoming season. Billy, who is 21 years old, will start his fourth AFL season with 36 games to his name.

Dom Tyson
Dom’s improvement in leadership, during the first five or six weeks of training, was really noticeable. He’s again working in the midfield group, but he’s really starting to drive his teammates and build some standards around how we go about our training. Dom has 90 AFL games to his name and is set to enter his seventh AFL season – his fifth at Melbourne.

Aaron vandenBerg
Aaron’s been in rehab with post-season surgery. He continues to have an impact in our environment – even without being on the training track. He has some real leadership capabilities and although we haven’t seen Aaron on the field for a while, I know as coaches and as a club, we’re really looking forward to getting him back.
