FORWARD/midfielder Brad Green believes he is having his most consistent AFL season in 2010.

Speaking on the back of his outstanding five-goal performance at the MCG on Sunday, which helped Melbourne to a 19-point win over Essendon, Green said his reliability has been a key to his first-class year.

“It’s probably my most consistent season,” Green told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’ve played more up forward than I have in the last four or five years, so I’m really enjoying it.

“I love playing forward and I love playing on the wing in the midfield. The great thing is that the coaching staff is letting me play both roles and l love that flexibility.”

The classy Demon said there was plenty riding on the round 15 clash for Melbourne - not just Essendon, which entered having lost its past four in a row.

“We came in having only won one game in nine and there was a lot put on us,” Green said.

“There was a lot put on Essendon this week, but there was no reason why they should’ve come out harder than us, because they’re no different to us.

“We had to come out hard and they had to come out hard, so we got over the line, which was fantastic.”

Although Melbourne had a couple of dips in the second half, Green said its first half was “overall a super team effort”.

“There were some ebbs and flows and you do have your ups and downs, but that’s footy, so that’s good experience for the younger guys,” he said.

“It would’ve been nice to finish off a bit better, rather than let a team get three or four goals, but we’ll learn from that.”

Green also equaled a personal-best with his five goals - a feat also achieved against St Kilda in round 22, 2002.

“I’ve only done it once, but the guys up the ground do all of the work and get the footy to, so it’s all good,” he said.

After 213 matches in the red and blue, Green said the best thing about winning remains the camaraderie and energy in the rooms post-match.

“Coming in here [in the change rooms] and seeing the boys have a few smiles is great,” he said.

“After a few wins, you can hold your head up high and enjoy it a bit.

“You’re always out there trying to do your best for Jim. All of the boys stood up today, so that was good for Jim.”
