KEY recruit Bianca Jakobsson says Melbourne’s second-round win was a team effort.
Jakobsson, who was one of the standouts in the 32-point victory against Adelaide Crows at Casey Fields on Saturday night, said it was consistency that got them over the line.
“It was a really good four quarter performance from us,” she said.
“We’re super stoked to beat Adelaide. They were the reigning premiers from last year and we knew they were going to come, and come hard – especially after their loss last week.”
“I think we put a really good team effort out on the park today.”
Jakobsson finished with 17 disposals, seven marks and three tackles, finding herself among the top possession-getters for the game.
But the former Blue said that every player contributed to the result.
“Everyone does their role,” Jakobsson said.
“There might be some people taking the marks and getting the kicks, but it’s everyone else’s hard work that enables that to happen.”
Fellow defender Laura Duryea impressed on Sarah Perkins, keeping the imposing Crows forward to just three disposals.
Jakobsson said it was a massive effort from the reliable defender.
“Irish (Laura Duryea) did a really good job against Perko (Sarah Perkins), and that enabled us to take those intercept marks and really drive the ball forward and switch to the other side,” she said.
It was a massive effort from Irish.”
Having previously played up forward, Jakobsson has worked seamlessly into the tight-knit backline group.
The 24-year-old said she is “absolutely loving” the change.
“I feel really comfortable, and it’s my teammates around me that make me feel that way,” Jakobsson said.
“I find I’m really thriving under the coach, Mick, and the rest of the coaching staff.”
Working with player development coach Colin Garland, Jakobsson said the defensive work has been very beneficial.
“Col’s been absolutely really great,” she said.
“We’ve done a lot of work and extras in the off-season, in my marking and in my body work, and that’s something that I really wanted to work on coming across from Carlton.”
