MELBOURNE has reached an important milestone in the club’s history, breaking its all-time membership record.
The Demons ticked over to 52,421 members this week, with senior coach Simon Goodwin sharing the news to the AFL playing group on Wednesday.
The occasion follows a challenging 2020 season, where the Demon faithful showed an incredible amount of support, in the most unprecedented of times.
Acknowledging the significant tally, CEO Gary Pert thanked all those who have stood by the club and signed up to be part of the journey in 2021.
“This momentous achievement is thanks to the support, dedication and commitment each of our members have shown,” Pert said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for putting their support behind us despite the ongoing uncertainty that COVID-19 continues to bring to the 2021 season.
“After the year that was 2020, we are so proud to be where we are today – 52,421 members strong and sitting near the top of the AFL ladder in a record-breaking membership year.
The Demons have had their most successful start to the AFL season of recent times, playing a consistent and recognisable brand of football.
It comes after a fantastic AFLW season, where talent shone through and resulted in the group reaching a Preliminary Final.
“This is a great day for our club, and it’s important that we continue to build on the momentum and reward the loyalty of our members,” Pert said.
“There are a lot of matches ahead and while we, as a club, are once again experiencing the effects of COVID-19, we are hopeful of having our members back at the MCG again soon.
“With your support, we can continue to navigate our way through these challenges and hopefully continue to put the wins on the board in 2021.
“We would love to have all of our supporters join us on the ride and be part of the Demon faithful.”
It’s not too late to share in Melbourne’s record-breaking year. A wide variety of membership packages are available, for purchase until July 31.
