VFLW: Casey ready for finals football
It is said that anything can happen in finals, and all you need to do is make it. And that is exactly what the Casey Demons VFLW side has done.
The Demons had a great home and away season which included eight wins and a four-game winning streak in the middle of the season. Making their maiden finals appearance, Casey will absolutely be wanting to make sure it’s much more than just that.
And coach Peter Mercoulia will be leaving no stone unturned when looking to make an impact in this game against the Bombers.
The sides met back in round two, which seems a long time ago now, and while the Demons lost that game by eight points, they came home strong and finished off well.
There will be 10 different players running out for the red and the blue this time, in a side that looks the goods to make an impact in the business end of the season.
This week returning to the side is Gabby Colvin and Brenna Tarrant to shore up the Demons defence, while Kate Gillespie-Jones will be an added bonus with her presence around the ground.
Monica Harasimiuk, Bridie Winbanks and Eliza McNamara have been named emergencies for the game.
There certainly is no limit on how far the Demons can go in this finals series, and the first step will be a win over Essendon on Saturday.

VFL: Giant task for the Demons
The Demon juggernaut keeps on rolling along, as they collected their sixth win on the trot last week over a gallant Essendon side.
Whilst it did take two-and a-bit quarters to gain control of the game, Mark Corrigan’s men took charge late and didn’t give the Bombers a look in. This week’s task; the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
The Giants had a solid 38-point win over the Swans last weekend and will be looking to extend their winning run. With a mixed bag of results so far this season, the best scalp GWS has taken is second-placed Southport by 30 points.
The Demons will need to keep an eye on Kieren Briggs, Matt de Boer and Sam J. Reid, as all three are omissions from the AFL side this weekend, along with Xavier O'Halloran who is averaging 25 disposals and a goal per game.
Casey only has a couple of changes from last week’s side. Nathan Jones and Mitch Brown will miss due to injury, with Zac Foot and George Grey to replace the Melbourne duo.
It what will be cold conditions out at Casey Fields on Saturday night, it’s another challenge for the Demons, and one they will look to embrace.
Casey will be donning their Indigenous jumper this match, ahead of NAIDOC Week, which has the Demons community at the core of the design.
The guernsey, named ‘Ayeye Anwernekenhe’ (Our Story in Arrernte) was designed by Arrernte artist Amunda Gorey, who hails from Santa Teresa.
Historically, the lands around Casey were inhabited by the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung peoples and the Wurundjeri peoples.
The Casey Demons would like to take the opportunity to thank all of its Indigenous players, staff, members and supporters that make such great contributions to the game and club.
