WE spoke to recruiting manager Barry Prendergast about Melbourne's selections in Tuesday's pre-season and rookie drafts.

"I'm really happy with the blokes that we've got. In getting Liam [Jurrah], we were able to get a tall, marking forward, which we were keen to get. In the other two boys, we were just keen to get some inside midfielders into the place with [Jordie] McKenzie and Rhys Healey."

"They were the type of players we wanted to get into the club. Both boys come from the bush, so there is a fair bit of scope in their development. They're both a good size and will add to our stoppage options in the footy club.

"Danny Hughes was part of our rookie list [in 2007] and he had some hip operations and he's got himself right and he's been doing the pre-season. He's a versatile medium forward and medium back, who can mark and has good pace. He has a bit of x-factor about him."
