HIGH-flying Demon Jeremy Howe says the newly unveiled ‘Jim Stynes Bridge’ at Docklands is a wonderful tribute for the late, great Jim Stynes.
Howe reflected on when he first met the Melbourne great when he joined the club via the NAB AFL Draft in 2010.
“Jim as a person, you can’t really explain as much as everyone else does. The first day that I met him, back in 2010, he came across as if you’d known him for years,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“The first time you meet him, he’s got that great personality and he had a great presence about him. He really listened to everything you wanted to say and then when he spoke, you could hear a pin drop. Everything he spoke about was very interesting.
“The bridge connects the Melbourne CBD to Docklands and like the bridge between the two is like the journey Stynesy talked about the most – from one place to another and I think that’s what this bridge represents.
“I think it’s the perfect set-up and it looks great and I think it’s going to honour him pretty well.”
Meanwhile, Howe said he was determined to play in his first Melbourne win over North Melbourne, given the Demons haven’t beaten the Kangaroos since round 20, 2006 at the MCG.
“We haven’t beaten North since 2006 and I haven’t played North Melbourne at the MCG before, so we think if we can take our form from the second half [against Essendon] and start that way against North Melbourne, we think we’re a real chance,” he said.
“They’re (North Melbourne) a team that likes to play fast and handballs through the corridor. If we can stop the way they want to play, and we can use the ball the way we want to, then we’re definitely a massive chance.
“We’ve just got to put in four consistent quarters and go from there.”
