JAMES Frawley says the bridge named in Jim Stynes’ honour is a fitting tribute to the city of Melbourne.
The star Demon said Stynes was a man loved by all Melbourne and football supporters and the work that he did in the Australian community, particularly in his adopted state of Victoria, was more than worthy of recognition.
“It’s great that Melbourne has shown a lot of respect to Jim and his family, particularly the city of Melbourne and the Melbourne council,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“The way they’ve done the bridge – it looks unreal. It’s pretty awesome. It’s just a great recognition of Jim and what he did for kids around Victoria. The legacy that he’s left on the city has been great.
“The redevelopment of this area [at Northbank] – it’s going to be pretty popular in a few years and it’s great that his name can be recognised in a really positive light. The bridge will be special for the family and it looks great.”
Meanwhile, Frawley said the Demons were lucky to escape with a win last round against the Bombers and they were determined to go back-to-back against the Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday.
“We were probably pretty lucky on the weekend with [Essendon kicking] a few points, but we’ll take the four points,” he said.
“North Melbourne has been playing pretty good footy, until last weekend, when they didn’t have a great game, but that’s AFL footy these days.
“Anyone can win on their day, but we’ve got to have a pretty strong game plan against North Melbourne, because over the last few years, they’ve got on top of us pretty early and they haven’t been close games at all.
“Hopefully we can play that defensive style of game again that we’ve been playing lately and shut the game down a little bit and hopefully we’ll be right in the game until the end and have a really good contest like we did last weekend.”
