STEVEN May proved to be the hard luck story of Round 4, suffering a fractured right eye socket and a concussion against the Cats.
The key defender will likely miss two to four weeks of action as he waits for the swelling to settle, but fortunately looks to have avoided surgery after copping a stray elbow from Tom Hawkins at the MCG.
May joins James Harmes (wrist) on the injury list for Melbourne, with the Dees’ No.4 still three weeks away from a return.
Last Saturday, Ben Brown (knee) and Sam Weideman (femur) made their first appearances of 2021, pulling on the Casey Demons guernsey for half a game in the wet.
Both key forwards recovered well from the contest and will line up again this weekend in Round 1 of the VFL season, as they look to build their match fitness before putting their hands up for senior selection.
Fans can attend that match at Box Hill City Oval from 12:05pm on Sunday, before heading to the MCG for Melbourne’s clash with the Hawks – a members replacement game.
