MELBOURNE has launched its 2011 membership campaign, urging its supporters to ‘Let Your Demon Out’.

This year Melbourne achieved a record membership of 33,358, which passed the 31,508 in 2009.

The club is aiming to better its 2010 membership, as it strives towards 40,000 members.

Melbourne president Jim Stynes has urged the red and blue supporters to join up as members as soon as possible and “fuel the fire with me in 2011”.

“In 1933, Melbourne’s new coach - Francis ‘Checker’ Hughes - urged the playing group to “Lift your heads and play like Demons”. And so the team did. Since that time, we have been known as ‘The Demons’,” Stynes said.

“In season 2011, as our team prepares to fight like Demons on the field, I invite you to Let Your Demon Out.

“I am proud of what our club has achieved in recent years.  We have grown in number, voice and confidence, and I am excited for what the future holds.

“It’s time now to demonstrate your passion and belief as a loyal Demon, by purchasing your membership for the 2011 season.  As we strive towards 40,000 members, we need all Demons with us on the journey.”
