COACH Paul Roos has thrown his full support behind a regular Melbourne and Richmond ANZAC Day eve fixture.
Speaking at AAMI Park on Monday, Roos says Friday night’s tribute lived up to – and respected the occasion – in the best possible manner.
“It was pretty special to be out on the ground [pre-match]. There was a lot of hype about the weekend, as there should’ve been, and we hadn’t played on Friday night for a long time and it was ANZAC eve,” he said.
“It was pretty spectacular with the horse coming around [the ground] and then the lighting of the cauldron, with Barass (Ron Barassi) being up there.
“The respect shown by both clubs to go through the banner together – those little things are pretty important to the occasion.
“I really enjoyed it and I know the players enjoyed it and hopefully we can make it something pretty special every year.”
