MAX Gawn says he's rapt to see the bounce remain in the game.

The 2016 All-Australian ruckman said he was in favour of retaining the bounce, but added that it wouldn’t have been “dire straits” if it had gone.

“I’m glad that it’s stayed and I’m a bit old school when it comes to that,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I enjoy watching the bounce to start the game and as a ruckman, not knowing exactly where it’s going to go, adds to our craft.

“I would’ve had to change my game a bit and I would’ve had to work on my leap, because it would’ve suited the people with the bigger leaps in the game. But it didn’t happen, so I didn’t have to worry about it.”

Gawn said he didn’t want to see an NBA-style start in the AFL.

“I’m not a big fan of the tip off in basketball and it’s almost like the scrum in rugby league – everyone knows where it’s going to go,” he said.

“I think the bounce is a unique part of our game – no one knows where the bounce is going to go. And then we play on from there.”
