CASEY skipper Jack Hutchins is thoroughly enjoying being a part of the Demons winning culture, as his side secured its 12th consecutive victory on the weekend.
After a slow start on Saturday afternoon, the Demons outran Sandringham to claim a 21-point win, and Hutchins was thrilled to continue the winning form.
“I think just the enjoyment factor is the best thing,” Hutchins told Melbourne Media.
“We don’t want to get too caught up on the streak and that sort of stuff and as much of a cliché as it is, we just try to take it week by week.
“But I think the best thing is we’ve got this brand that everyone has bought into and the enjoyment that’s coming out of it is fantastic.”
The Demons were staring down the barrel of defeat on Saturday and had to overcome a 22-point deficit to register the four points.
“We reflected at quarter-time that we were going through the motions a bit and not really attacking it the way we normally do,” Hutchins said.
“Full credit to Sandringham, they really came out hard … but to be able to fight back was pleasing.
“That’s the beauty with the group, we always have a belief that we’re in the game, no matter the situation.
“When we come up against the really good sides and we’ve got our backs against the wall, we can grind through and wear teams down.”
Casey has played a consistent brand of football throughout the season and has continuously found ways to win, regardless of the personnel in the side.
“We pride ourselves on winning the contest and out numbering around the contest,” Hutchins said.
“If we get that right and the way we want to play, then the game works out in our favour.
“We always try to play the conditions, but that sort of brand will hold up whether it’s dry or not.”
The Demons have lost just one game at Casey Fields this season and Hutchins believes his side’s game plan is suited to the venue.
“We’ve played at this ground long enough to know when these conditions come about, what to do and what to expect,” he said.
“I think we’ve got a system in place now that it doesn’t really matter what the conditions are, we still try to play a certain way and I think that has been the key to our success and run so far.”
Hutchins had an interrupted start to the season with a wrist injury, but since returning to the side he has played at both ends of the field.
The 26-year-old made a name for himself as a key defender early in his career and in recent weeks has gone back to defence to lead for Casey.
“I think going forward was a really good learning curve for me just to add another string to the bow and to have that diversity within the group,” Hutchins said.
“There are a lot of guys that can play different roles so to be able to do that I was really pleased about.
“I still feel comfortable down back to play that role, so it’s been good to get a bit of repetition down there.”
