SUNDAYS will become a family-friendly day at the footy in 2015, with children under the age of 15 gaining free entry to five of Melbourne’s home games at the MCG.
Junior Melbourne supporters will receive free entry to matches against Fremantle (round 5), Western Bulldogs (round 8), Brisbane (round 16), St Kilda (round 17) and North Melbourne (round 19).
AFL General Manager Clubs and AFL Operations, Travis Auld, said the change was one of several initiatives introduced to make going to the football easier for all fans, especially families.
“Clubs are to be congratulated on their commitment to ensuring the game is highly accessible to children and families, which has led to the introduction of free admission for children to Sunday MCG and Etihad Stadium matches next season,” Auld said.
“This initiative is also part of a much wider program being developed by clubs and the AFL to make Sundays a family-friendly day at the footy.”
Melbourne is also aiming to have all five home Sunday MCG matches as the club’s designated ‘Kick on the ’G’ games, giving fans the chance to enter the hallowed turf post-match.
“For all our junior members … to come for free and be able to get out onto the ground and have a kick on the G post-game, that’s really exciting for our members and I think it’s a great initiative by the AFL,” Melbourne captain Nathan Jones said.
The changes to ticketing focus on ease of entry for supporters.
Members will be able to scan their membership card to enter the ground and sit in either their reserved seat or specified general admission area.
Attending games is one of the best ways to support the club, as revenue from ticket sales goes straight to the club.
