VFL
Casey Scorpions 14.13 (97) d Frankston 10.6 (66)
Rohan Bail: Rohan returned to the senior VFL after a successful return to playing the week prior in the Development side. Playing in the midfield, Rohan won a good balance of contested and uncontested possessions to finish with 19 for the game. He also had five inside 50s and laid four tackles. He has clearly maintained his fitness base after missing with injury.
Dom Barry: Dom was a busy player getting involved as our wingman. He generated 20 disposals and used the ball effectively in extremely difficult, windy conditions. Dom continues to show improvement, particularly his understanding of when to take ground and back himself to utilise the space available to him.
Sam Blease: Sam travelled with the AFL side and flew back from the Gold Coast Sunday morning to play at Frankston. Given this difficult preparation, Sam was a very good contributor for Casey. He committed to some hard, contested ball and laid a couple of strong tackles. Offensively, he won 20 possessions as a wing/half-forward and kicked a classy goal late in the last quarter to help seal the game.
Max Gawn: Max played a dominant game with 22 disposals, 10 marks and 40 hit outs, which was a reflection of his work rate. He was consistent throughout the game and really helped ignite the team's final quarter in which Casey scored 9.5.
He took a number of contested marks and his hit outs to advantage were a real highlight in this game.
Nev Jetta: Nev played his best game for the season, playing across half-back. He led the side for inside 50s with six and he also defended well, which complemented his overall game. He had 21 disposals, eight marks and three goals (including two set shots early in the last quarter to spark the team). This was an excellent four quarter effort.
Joel Macdonald: Joel returned the previous week in the Development side after an injury interruption and played a hard, aggressive game. He rebounded well from half-back and neutralised or won most of his contested situations. The side benefitted from his leadership and direction in Casey's backline.
James Magner: Jimmy started the game in terrific style kicking a couple of goals early and linking up well through the midfield. Whilst he had just the 18 possessions, which is below his recent numbers, he was still a good contributor particularly his combative work around the stoppages. He also led the side for tackles with six for the match.
David Rodan: David returned to some excellent form. His speed, agility and use of the ball really stood out when many players were impacted by the wind. He had 23 possessions, eight marks, five inside 50s and kicked an important goal, which made him a very good player for Casey.
James Sellar: James played three quarters as a defender and read the play well taking 12 marks for the game. James was used as a forward in the last quarter when the side had the breeze and also made an impact, kicking two valuable goals. He ensured the side won the game.
Rory Taggert: Rory performed well in this game as a half-forward and midfielder. He took some very strong contested marks and his kicking efficiency was also a positive. He had 14 disposals and eight marks, which was a solid game from Rory.
Jimmy Toumpas: Jimmy had 24 disposals, consisting of 18 kicks and six handballs. His field kicks were outstanding and ensured that the side retained possession and helped set up a number of scoring opportunities for the team. His kicking combined with eight marks and three tackles was an overall very good performance.
Josh Tynan: Josh sustained an injury early in the game and did not return to the field.
