A NAILBITTER against St Kilda in Round 14 has seen three Demons poll in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.

The coaches joined Melbourne fans in deeming Steven May the best player on the ground, awarding the defender a perfect 10 votes for his efforts at TIO Traeger Park.

May was prolific in his side’s three-point win, finishing with 22 disposals, 14 of which were kicks, and a game-high 12 intercepts.

The 28-year-old, who was the only Melbourne player to register votes last week, also managed an impressive nine marks and recorded 311 metres gained.

Christian Petracca was the next best for the Dees, receiving eight votes for his four-goal performance.

The midfielder, who is in career-best form this season, finished with 15 disposals, including 12 contested, and earned a Goal of the Year nomination for his freakish fourth-term major.

Ed Langdon was also recognised for his 22-disposal game (three votes), while St Kilda’s Jack Steele (six votes) and Bradley Hill (three votes) rounded out the top performers.

With four rounds of the home and away season to go, Petracca moves back into second position on the interim leaderboard with 62 votes, while Brisbane’s Lachie Neale remains atop (75 votes).
