THE MELBOURNE Football Club strongly condemns the racial vilification of Kysaiah Pickett on social media on Saturday.
An offensive comment, which appeared after Melbourne’s Round 13 match against the Western Bulldogs, was posted on a photo shared on Melbourne’s official Instagram account.
The comment was promptly removed.
The Club appreciates the significant progress the football community has made regarding racism, but comments of this nature highlight the problem that still exists in the game and in society.
To have this occur during Sir Doug Nicholls Round, a time to recognise and celebrate great Indigenous talent, is incredibly frustrating and disappointing.
The Melbourne Football Club stands with Kysaiah and strongly against the vilification of its people. It will continue to play its role in driving the importance of education and growth.
