Melbourne divisional coaches Jade Rawlings (backline), Brian Royal (midfield) and Leigh Brown (forward line) give melbournefc.com.au their thoughts on how the 46 Demons are tracking so far this pre-season …

Jai Sheahan (rookie): Jai has many AFL attributes, but has a lot of work ahead of him to become ready to play senior footy. At 196 cm, he can run, and is quite smart in how he sees the game and positions himself. He should be able to have an impact at VFL level in 2012. - Jade Rawlings

Jake Spencer: After coming off a knee reconstruction in 2011, Jake has put on size and strength. He has been leading the way in the rehab group. - Brian Royal

James Strauss: James is coming back from a long-term injury, which he sustained in round 20 against Carlton last season. At this stage, he has improved his weights and conditioning work. - Jade Rawlings

Colin Sylvia: After the disappointment of missing out on representing Australia against Ireland, Colin has displayed an outstanding attitude. - Brian Royal

Rory Taggert: Our first selection in the NAB AFL Draft at No.36, Rory has settled in quite comfortably. He has been a strong contributor in our divisional meetings.- Brian Royal

Luke Tapscott: Luke has been training with the midfield group in the pre-Christmas period. He has been a solid contributor in all aspects of our pre-season training program. - Brian Royal

Jack Trengove: After starting later due to Australian commitments, Jack has been outstanding with his pre-Christmas training. - Brian Royal

Josh Tynan: Josh was selected at No.52 - our second selection - in the NAB AFL Draft. He has been very upbeat since arriving and is a very positive young fellow. Josh is learning the ropes and what it takes to become an AFL player. - Jade Rawlings

Jack Watts: Jack’s been good. He hasn’t missed a session. His endurance and strength improvements have been pleasing. - Leigh Brown

Leigh Williams:  Leigh's journey to become a professional footballer after playing local level football last year has been a good one. His willingness to learn and improve has been great in his short time at the club. While having lots of work ahead of him, we expect him to be able to make an impact at VFL level next season. - Leigh Brown
