CASEY coach Brad Gotch runs through the Melbourne-listed players who played for the Scorpions in round three

Seniors
Casey Scorpions 16.16 (112) d North Ballarat 8.8 (56), Eureka Stadium, Saturday, April 16 (2pm)

Sam Blease: Sam played his best game for us. He had 28 possessions and played off half-back/wing. He ran the lines and did the hard stuff. He was defensively good and set-up at least half-a-dozen goals. His attack from defence and run through the lines was sensational. It was a really promising performance and one we’ve been waiting for. We know he can do it and he showed it, so he’ll get a lot of confidence from that.

Matthew Bate: Matthew was very good with 26 possessions and three goals. He also took nine marks. I thought he was one of our key players, due to his work-rate, especially up the ground. He was consistent over four quarters. He could’ve kicked a few more goals, as he also booted three behinds.

Lucas Cook: Lucas played one of his best games for us up forward. He seemed to enjoy a bit of space and had good chemistry with the other forwards. He had 18 possessions and kicked one goal. His composure and ability to use the footy was promising. Something came from each possession, which was pleasing.

Michael Evans: Michael was good again. He didn’t use the ball as well as he has been in recent weeks, but he still got 27 possessions. He did a lot of smart work among the clearances and also spread well.

Max Gawn: Gawn had 18 touches and combined well with Jake Spencer, as the duo was up against Orren Stephenson, who is a premiership ruckman. Max played his role really well, but Gawny has just got to watch his game at times, because he gives away a few too many free kicks. He can be over exuberant at times.

Jeremy Howe: Jeremy played his first senior match for Casey. He had 14 possessions and kicked a really good goal in the first quarter. He should’ve kicked another, but he had good chemistry with the other forwards, so he showed some promise.

Neville Jetta: Neville was very good. He played in the midfield and got 28 disposals.

Kelvin Lawrence: Kel was much better this week. He got his pressure skills up and kicked a goal. He should’ve kicked a couple. He looked better on the drier surface and the bigger ground with a bit more space.

Joel Macdonald: Joel had 24 touches and was very good in the midfield and across half-back. He was really good with his hands. He set up a lot of our play inside, which was good.

Tom McDonald: Tom was the one tall who was put out a bit, because North Ballarat didn’t have a lot of talls in its side. I played him back and forward. His second half was better than his first half, but I didn’t have him on a lot before half-time. He was good though with his opportunities.

Daniel Nicholson: Daniel played his best game for us, winning 33 possessions. He played on Myles Sewell, who is a Liston Trophy winner. Daniel did a good job on Sewell, who was kept to 19 touches. Daniel also attacked well. We were really pleased with Daniel, who also kicked a goal.

Ricky Petterd: Ricky had a really good game, kicking three goals. He played forward and also in the midfield on the wing. He worked hard and seemed to enjoy his game, which was good.

Jake Spencer: Pencil had 17 touches and I thought he really stood up. He played his role and followed instructions, which was really good, because he was a bit down for us last week.

James Strauss: James played one of his better games for us. He had 26 possessions for us off half-back flank. He set us up numerously and used the ball well.

Matthew Warnock: Matthew was very good down back and hardly made a mistake. He had 20 possessions and set-up a lot of rebounds.

Reserves
Casey Scorpions 18.6 (114) d North Ballarat 8.7 (55), Eureka Stadium, Saturday, April 16 (11pm)

Troy Davis:
Troy had nine touches, but only played a bit more than a half. But because the reserves won comfortably, he didn’t have to impact much.

Jack Fitzpatrick: Jack only had eight possessions in an OK performance.

Tom McNamara: Tom was solid playing in the midfield, but only had 14 touches, so you want more possessions from him when he’s playing a midfield role.
