Wins before contracts: Neeld
Mark Neeld says he is more worried about on-field matters than player contracts
MELBOURNE coach Mark Neeld says he's not concerned with the spectre of player free agency hurting his club.
Midfielder Brent Moloney's management have indicated they will test the waters with this year's introduction of limited free agency, while ruckman Mark Jamar is another Demon coming out of contract.
The Demons have already suffered the loss of former No.1 draft pick Tom Scully to Greater Western Sydney in the marketplace.
But Neeld is not prepared to enter into public discussion about individual players and their contracts, saying he is far more focused on improving the Demons on-field rather than worrying about possible player losses.
Winless this season, the Demons take on Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday night.
"I prefer an environment where those discussions are held between list manager and manager and player. That's the way we want to go about it," Neeld said.
"Our concern is tomorrow night against the Hawks, and improving every week we play.
"Contractual status, those sort of things, they'll sort themselves out. They always do, every year.
"When we've got statements to make (on player contracts), we'll make them."
