DASHER Rohan Bail says Melbourne will take plenty of confidence into next round’s clash against St Kilda, although the Demons fell 21 points short against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Sunday.

The Demons host the Saints at the MCG next Saturday night, and Bail says the red and blue have gained some much needed self-belief to take on St Kilda.

“We’ve definitely gained some confidence from it,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“We’ve got to keep training hard. Our training has been amazing all season, and eventually if we keep our work ethic up in our main session every week, then hopefully it’ll turn during the game.

“We’ve really got to keep the pressure up, and the Saints have got a star midfield like the Bulldogs have.

“If we can curb their influence, hold our structures and keep our DIs up, then we’re a chance - as long as we put in a four quarter performance.”

Bail, who finished with 19 touches and a goal, said his focus was on his desire indicators - chasing, spoiling and tackling - but said he would continue to hone in on those areas against the Saints.

“I felt confidence. It was a little bit slippery, but my main focus was to get heaps of desire indicators and lots of spread to use my run,” he said.

“I was able to get on the end of a couple and I’d like to get a few more tackles, but that’ll come.”

Bail said pre-match footage of the late, great Jim Stynes provided some inspiration for the Demons. He said the moving tribute touched the entire team.

“It was a really special commemoration for Jim.

“We watched a video that was also shown to all of the spectators - that was really moving, and it got us all in a really good frame of mind.

“We just remembered some of the hardships that he had to go through. Our job tonight was onfield, and the guys really came out and showed a lot of desire in Jim’s honour.”
